Many drugs prescribed for stiff dogs can cause liver damage, particularly when given for any length of time.
These include:
- NSAID's (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), such as Carprofen (Rimadyl etc), Meloxicam (Metacam), Firocoxib (Previcox), Deracoxib (Deramaxx), Phenylbutazone
- steroids, such as prednisolone, deaxamethasone etc
- paracetamol
- opioid-like analgesics (Tramadol)
- tricyclic anti-depressants (Gabapentin)
all of which can worsen liver values, especially in older dogs and those with already raised hepatic enzymes, indicating liver disease is already present:

PEA on the other hand, is highly effective at easing stiff joints and is 100% safe for liver compromised dogs and cats, making it the perfect first choice for improving quality of life in these circumstances.
