The dangers of Librela and how to avoid this drug

Click on links in blue below to access further information.

Librela is a relatively new, genetically modified monoclonal antibody (otherwise known as anti-NGF) which blocks the action of Nerve Growth Factor in the body.

While this has been shown to reduce pain perception in arthritic joints, it can  also cause wide-ranging disruptions of the sympathetic nerve system and immune cells which can lead to serious and sometimes fatal reactions in sensitive pets.

In addition to these, many additional adverse events are being reported by pet parents globally, which also need careful consideration.

2.  The discontinuation of all human anti-NGF trials due to toxicity concerns:

See Raylumis, Tanezumab and Regeneron, which indicate the potential harm Librela may cause given it belongs to the same class of drugs.

3.  Mounting evidence which shows that NGF is involved in the regulation of numerous bodily functions vital for continued health:

Nerve Growth Factor: from the early discoveries to the potential clinical use.

4.  The importance of NGF in protecting sympathetic nerves from degeneration and death:

Nerve Growth Factor Signalling, Neuroprotection, and Neural Repair.

5.  An increased risk of rapidly progressive osteoarthritis:

Anti-NGF treatment worsens subchondral bone and cartilage measures while improving symptoms in floor-housed rabbits with osteoarthritis

6.  Lack of information regarding the effect of anti-NFG on overall health - which is likely to be the case for some time given the use of Librela is still in its infancy.

7.  There is no 'antidote' which means if serious side effects develop, they will persist for as long as a disruptive level remains in the system.*

*Supporting the organs responsible for breaking down Bedinvetmab, and the complexes formed with NGF is outlined here:

How Long Does It Take For Bedinvetmab To Clear From The Body and What Support Helps?

The points raised above indicate why it's so important to trial Ultimate Joint Support, plus additional measures if necessary, such as acupuncture, McTimoney Chiropractic and hydrotherapy before considering Librela - which given the risks involved, should only be used as a last resort when there is no other viable alternative.
